Witness the awe-inspiring spectacle as hundreds of thousands of starlings perform mesmerising murmurations before they settle into the Llandegley Rhos Roost for the night.

You are invited to the Friends of Radnor Forest Starling Watch 2024 which is being held 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟭𝟭𝘁𝗵 at the Llandegley Rhos Starling Roost.

Please feel free to extend this invitation to your family and friends. All are welcome.

Given the very narrow nature of the lane to Pye Corner we ask that people please carefully park their vehicles on either side and leave space for a 4x4 Land Rover size vehicle to pass through.

Please note that we will have people stationed at Pye Corner to direct you to places to park and stand to watch the Starlings. A friend has also very kindly offered to ferry people from the two Llandegley lay-bys if overflow parking becomes necessary. (map below)

Suitable vehicles have the option to continue along the BOAT (Byway Open to All Traffic) at the gate from Pye Corner next to the River Edw. Vehicles can be parked in the area of the old quarry located just below the red dot on the area marked on the map as Llandegley Rhos Common. The quarry is also a good place where people who aren't able to stand for long periods would be able to watch the starlings from their vehicle.

𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗧. There are usually sheep grazing on Llandegley Rhos Common.

Blaen Edw Bank is a favourite location from which to watch the Starlings perform their magical murmurations, especially for photographers. However, getting to this spot requires climbing up and down a relatively steep incline.

Given that the Red Listed Starlings usually perform their murmurations until they settle into the Llandegley Rhos Roost at dusk, it is wise to bring a torch.

If the weather is wet, sturdy boots are advised.

Bring your cameras and phones to take lots of photos and video.

We look forward to seeing you there.
